The Godfather and Othello

So now that you've finished the first movie, what are your thoughts?  What is the manifestation of Evil that you see so far?  What are your thoughts on Michael?  How is he like/different from his father, The Don?  Also, please read Act I of Othello for Tuesday.  As you read, please post thoughts/questions on this great tragedy.  Have an Evil Labor Day!

  1. I really enjoyed this movie. I found it to be very suspenseful and enjoyable. I also loved that the viewers became so attached to the characters, even though they were murderers, that we were so sad when they died. I loved Michael in the beginning of the movie, but as the movie progressed, his once sweetness started to fade. I think that once his father died, Michael felt that he had the responsibility to take on the position as the head of the family. I like to think that although Michael is now in the same position that Don Corleone once was, he will still have some of his sweetness preserved deep down. The ending disappointed me when they shut the day on Kay because it kindof made me think that Michael is more like Don than I thought.

  2. I really liked the movie and thought it was a fun way to introduce evil. Im not usually a fan of these kind of movies but i enjoyed the storyline as well as the characters. Unlike Carter, i was kind of bothered by Michael at the beginning of the movie because i wanted him to be more a part of the family business. Even though the "business" did do bad things, i got pulled into it and wanted them to be the best, even if they were killing people. After the scene with Don Corleone and Michael towards the end, i loved how Michael's character evolved from separated from the family to basically being the leader of the Corleone's. The way he gave up a lot of things to stick up for his family when they needed someone showed a lot of loyalty to the family name which made me really love michael in the end.
