Age Difference

I've been thinking about the age difference between Othello and Desdemona. I realize that women usually married young and men sort of old, but definitely not as old as Othello back then. Since he's been in relationships before, shouldn't he know how women are like? I feel like he holds her way too accountable for her actions, but she's only 19!  Shouldn't Othello be more loving and caring towards Desdemona? I just don't feel any sympathy towards him.

  1. Iago poisons Othello to the point where his mind is set on Desdemona acting unfaithfully. Othello also says he feels so much for Desdemona that his logic goes completely out the door when thinks badly of her. Basically all of his emotions towards her are to the extreme, whether its love or hatred.

  2. Excellent post and reply!! Lots of work needs to be done in the staging of the play to illustrate Othello's love for Desdemona, his nobility, his tragedy. Not sure that I've done a good job of focusing on this crucial aspect. How do you see the movie version of the tragic hero? Let's talk about that.
